Diane Shelton is a counselor and psychotherapist, licensed in Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), and in Wisconsin and North Carolina as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), the highest levels of counselor licensure available for each state. Diane maintains a private practice in Algonquin, Illinois, where she provides individual, adolescent, marital, and family therapy, and also provides counseling, consulting, and coaching services throughout the United States via telephone.
Diane has extensive professional experience in corporate, non-profit, medical, and entrepreneurial environments, which allows her to tailor her public speaking and trainings for each setting, and brings depth to her counseling, consulting, and coaching activities. She developed a strong background in psychiatric assessment, adolescent, adult, and family therapy, through her roles on inpatient and outpatient psychiatric hospital units. This expertise allows her to quickly assess conflicts and obstacles and recommend effective interventions.
Diane has over 8 years of crisis intervention experience, interacting with the public and professionals concerning traumatic and emotional issues, including serious psychiatric conditions such as suicide and mania, substance abuse and other addictions, and acute relationship/parenting conflicts.
For the last 13 years, Diane also has been a career counselor – both in her private practice, and for the last 5 years she has been involved as a leader and frequent speaker at a comprehensive church-based Career and Life Transitions workshop.
Prior to her counseling career (commenced in 1996), Diane spent 15 years in the insurance industry in a variety of technical and managerial roles that crossed significant areas of responsibility. She frequently provided group and individual training, for executive to support level staff, on intricacies of the insurance products, their international operations, and the technology to support them.
Throughout both careers, Diane has created and presented numerous workshops, training sessions, and motivational seminars. She consistently receives excellent evaluations; participants frequently remark that her personality, comprehensive knowledge, humor, and warmth combine to create an outstanding learning experience.
